Hi! I’m Ebrel Penrose, nice to meet you!

Is it an unusual name? It’s just Cornish for April. Oh thank you for saying it’s a pretty name. I don’t think I’ve ever thought about it but I’m glad you like it.

Did my father send you? Oh no? That’s all right then, I can relax a bit.

What are you drinking? Beer? Yuck! I don’t like beer but dad doesn’t believe me when I tell him that.

He doesn’t like me coming to the pub at all really, especially if he thinks I’m with Philip. Oh, he’s my beau, my squeeze, my fella, my bloke. Or do you say “boyf” these days? I’m trying to be all 21st century, but when you died of cholera in the 1830s, it’s learning a whole other language to use words like “hot” and “cool” and “boyf”. I’m doing my best.

When I get a phone I’m going to go on that Facebook thingy. Will you add me?

Sorry, must chillax a bit there Ebrel.

I like being here but it’s hard. I wish mum was here though. A shame she never came back with me and dad. I think he finds it hard sometimes but he won’t ever tell me. I know he loves me. I just wish he let me be myself sometimes.

Dad doesn’t like Philip though he hasn’t met him. I’m sure he will like him when they meet, but I’m waiting for the right moment, you know? Philip’s that gorgeous one over there. Wave and say hello Philip!

Oh don’t be jealous, Philip. They’re just passing through! Yes, he’s from the Tudor period. He lived here when Queen Elizabeth – the first one that is – was on the throne.

So, have you met? Oh Kensa! I like her but I find her a bit scary. Harry’s fun. No, he’s better than fun – I think he’s cool. He’s another one who is always nice to me.

Have you met Karl? Such a nice man. He’s like my uncle, in fact I call him Uncle Karl sometimes. He’s always nice to me. Not everyone here is. Some people think I’m a silly girl who should mind her own business.

Babajide is always nice. Have you met him? Oh he’s really sweet. A bit quiet but when you get to talk to him he’s really funny.

I suppose you’re right. There are lots of nice people here. I should just chillax, shouldn’t I? I won’t keep you any further though. Because I’m sure you’ll want to read all about our little book coming out in a few weeks.

You’ll read all about me and Philip. It’s so romantic and I hope you think we make a good couple.

Nice to meet you stranger!

I have something to say about the village
