Transcript of a Public Talk about the Salmonweird Books

From Friday 8th November 2019
Host: DI (Retired) Karl Blackman
Minutes taken by Village Committee Secretary Babajide

Hello and welcome to the village hall here at Salmonweir, ladies and gentlemen of the local press and book fans alike. It’s so good to see you all here today. I must admit, we didn’t quite expect so many of you.

We didn’t know what to expect with our first book about the village, aptly titled Salmonweird because that’s what the tabloid press have decided to dub our gorgeous little village.

Let me introduce myself. I’m Karl Blackman and I am the only living person in this village. That’s right, everyone else around you, and who appears in the first and second book, are not alive. Don’t let that scare you, they’re a friendly bunch.

By now, I trust you’ve all read the book? Or at least read the press brief a hundred times so you can pretend as though you’ve read it.

:::LAUGHTER:::

This isn’t about the first book although we will hold a Q&A at the end and before we turn the ghosts loose on you in the hall.

As I said, this is not about the first book, but the future of the series. It will also be a spoiler free summary. You will not get any secrets out of me today.

A Salmonweird Sleighing

The first sequel recounts events we refer to here as “The Christmas Incident”. We were all looking forward to our first festive season and bonding over some mulled wine but somebody had other ideas and it ended up being quite a tragic time for the village. You wouldn’t have heard about it on the TV or in the newspapers and you wouldn’t believe it even if it had received coverage. A bittersweet festive period for all of us and we hope to release this volume sometime in 2021.

Salmonweird TV

By now you’ve no doubt heard that we are negotiating with several TV studios. We can confirm that this is true. However, we are not able to divulge further information as we’ve signed a non-disclosure agreement. We cannot confirm or deny that the cast and crew of light-hearted crime drama Killed in Kernow will be here at any point in the future. Nor can we confirm or deny rumours that hotel tycoon and TV personality Guesthouse Guru will be evaluating The King’s Head pub. I don’t actually know myself and I wouldn’t tell you even if I knew.

Untitled Fourth Book

I can confirm a fourth book in the main series is now planned. It follows on from a certain unexpected event from the end of the second book A Salmonweird Sleighing. A light in the dark, if you like. Further details will be released in time. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Negotiations are ongoing with the company representative to tell his story of how he came to be a sales rep for the private company that now runs the afterlife. No immediate plans and he has mountains of paperwork to finish first. Expect an announcement when we know anything at all.

That just about wraps it up, I think? Help yourself to nibbles and drinks. If you haven’t read the book Salmonweird and would like to, good news! We have copies on sale at the back of the hall. For those who would prefer to order an electronic edition or maybe add the book to their Christmas wishlist, we are about to send the link to your devices.
